The name YoungBird was chosen for the drum group by using the last name of our grandpa Edward Hamilton-YoungBird. YoungBird set up for the first time at Prairie Island, MN in 1997. YoungBird has had over 50 singers and over 100 songs composed in the last 11 years along with recording 13 albums. At one time averaging 35 powwows a year, YB has traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada winning numerous drum competitions and hosting many, many different powwows.

In 2002, the album "Change Of Life" was nominated at the 44th Annual Grammy Awards for "Best Native American Music Album" at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. Leading to this, YoungBird was also inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall Of Fame. In 2005, the song "Meant To Be" featured in the Movie "Buffalo Dreams".
